Live chess

Postby Tipi on Sat Mar 21, 2009 12:27 am

So I am working on an idea and thought I'd see what you creative types could add.

Today we set up a life size chess board in the cafe for the Twilight movie relese party.
I was thinking how seriously cool it would be to make an even bigger one out side...

So how can we turn a live chess match into a charity event?

*charge per person to participate
*charge per team
*free entry with clubs as teams and donations...

would it work as a stand alone event or should it be part of another event?

thoughts?

You may want to contact your local rennasaince Festival...

I know both the New York and New Jersey Faires do a living Chess game... but those are all staged with combat sequences.

My suggestion would be to do a couple of "serious games" and maybe getting a troupe to perform a game or two... you could also do a 'Wizards faire' and use kids in place of pieces making them a part of Wizards chess like Harry Potter!
History, tradition, culture... are not concepts! These are trophies I keep in my den as paperweights! The chaos we will cause with this machine will be our final masterpiece!- D. Mayflower

Tennessee does live combat chess as well.

plan a small ren fair and see about getting your local sca involved. Call it "Festival day".Maybe a couple of vendors and such...sell tickets to the event with those proceeds going to the charity of choice.

Doesn't have to be an all day event, sort of an afternoon event.

Depending upon your time table (and this might be ambitious), May 1st would be appropriate...you could also have a maypole dance.

When I was living in Colorado I went to this really awesome renn fair in Larkspur that they held all summer long. I think I remember them doing a live chess thingy there.
