Hello my friends,

I know it's been awhile since I've been on the forum. As you can tell from the topic title, I'm currently battling cancer. Specifically the cancer is leukemia and I still have some more testing to do for lymphoma and myeloma before the doctor can tell me what kind it is (the odds on favorite is chronic lymphocytic leukemia) and stage it. I'm still working (you can't keep a good superhero down). I guess someone must have slipped Kryptonite into my coffee. As of today, the doctor has not said I need a bone marrow biopsy (thank God, I've had 3 of them in the past and they hurt like hell!!).

I'm the Sr. Staff Member that Mix contacted. I was out of town all weekend, and just got it this morning. I'll be happy to take point on this, but am not entirely sure what to do, so any suggestions are welcome.

Initial thoughts -
o Find the best web site for this type of cancer and post a link for donations
o Gathering at Preventors location - maybe visit a children's cancer ward there, with Preventor leading the charge
o Send out a plea to test for bone marrow matches if it turns out that's what he needs

Having lost a father to cancer it tears at my nerves and my heart that Preventor is dealing
with this terrible illness. He's a tough fighter and I know he will battle every step of the
way but I remember how bad it was for my father and I feel for him. If we do anything
I am willing to help, even if it's a simple monetary donation.

I'd be up for a donation, be it money or marrow, whichever could work.

I would personally love to see Preventor make a children's cancer ward apperance. His courage could only be matched or exceeded by those kids! A true day for Heroes!

That's a really good idea, aviator. A children's cancer ward. Imagine the reaction of the children to see a superhero fighting the same battle they are fighting.

I like that idea a lot.

What area is preventor based out of? if this can be arranged, I would love to come out to be a part of it if at all possible.

I also wonder about marrow donation. How does one go about that, and what is the screening process?

Anyone know?

We're starting to get the ball rolling, and the key ideas seem to be:

Getting tested for Bone Marrow matching
Set up a donation plan for Preventor's specific type of cancer (once it's determined)
League Gathering local to Preventor for children's hospital visits

Feel free to add any ideas, links or plans for making this happen.

Yes, Preventor is in San Antonio, Tx.

I can make a monetary donation but my previous bout with Cancer eleminates me from being a donor.

You can get the testing kits, I believe they run around $55. You get it in the mail, take the sample and send it back.

crud. texas is a little out of my range. however, i can look into the marrow donor screening.

I haven't forgotten about this. I e-mailed and PM'd another senior staff member in Preventor's neck of the woods for some assistance with some of these ideas. Haven't heard back yet, but will send out subtle reminders ASAP.

I still want to meet Preventor one day. And I still think this is a heckuva good idea... Keep us posted.
